The Malawian government has ordered Ichocho Power Security to stop employing military attire and resubmit the firm's documentation within seven days because the original documents used to register the company have errors.
For a disciplinary hearing in the Ministry of Homeland Security in Capital Hill on Tuesday, Ichocho Power Security appeared before a panel consisting of Homeland Security Minister Ken Zikhale Ng'oma, Justice Minister Titus Mvalo, Inspector General for Malawi Police Service Merlyin Yolamu, and other officials.
This comes after a video of one of the directors of Ichocho Power Security, Yasin Ichocho Suwedi, and his men went viral on social media, in which they claimed to have kidnapped Tonderai Banda and demanded that Tonderai's father, Jai Banda, used his legal expertise to aid Ichocho in getting government recognition as a security agency.
Minister of Justice Titus Mvalo revealed to reporters that they called the security company to ask them if they were responsible for what was shown in the video.

He also pointed out several legal infractions the security company committed, such as alarming the public, donning a military uniform, and spreading false information about the kidnapping of Banda's son.
In addition, the company must resubmit the application materials to the Minister of Homeland Security within seven days after discovering that the company's records are incomplete and contain certain anomalies, which is an example of a dysfunctional system, Mvalo continued.
If it doesn't, the corporation will be reregistered, he said. "Following the disciplinary meeting, we decided to forgo interfering with the court cases filed against the company's owner, Mr. Ichocho, for breaking the laws I previously mentioned because the courts will handle them, and he has already appeared and will do so again on the eighth of this month.
"Another problem is that Ichocho should only receive the letter of censure as a first and last warning. Every time Ichocho hires a recruit, they must submit that recruit to the Ministry of Homeland Security along with information about all of their guards.
All of their guards must have IDs that the business's chairman has signed. Ichocho's company must hire a lawyer so that he can advise them on what they may or may not do. Finally, he said the MDF and MPS should stop wearing military uniforms.
George Kasakula, the chairman of Ichocho Power Security, apologized on behalf of the company, saying that the release of the video shocked everyone and that it also broke several rules, including those related to security, as well as releasing false alarms.

As a security organization, we say that we regret that clip and that it shouldn't have happened. Mr. Yasin Suwedi, our managing director, erred. We've come here to beg the minister not to withdraw the license', he said.
He suggested that the minister consider Suwedi, a young man who employs other young men. He promised that the business would be run ethically and that something like this would never happen again.
